PROYECTO ONDARROA, S.A.
POSA is the acronym of a group project designed by various ship-owners of the high seas fishing fleet of the fishing port of Ondarroa (Bizkaia), one of the most important on the coast of the Bay of Biscay.
It consists of seven groups of ship-owners that contribute 13 ships, which accounts for 50 % of the high seas fishing fleet of the Basque Country.
Based on a comprehensive view of the industry, the project involves a new direct relationship model with the market, aligning its needs with those of the ships’ operations.
Ultimately, the intention is that the activities of the ships should not end when they unload the fish at the fish markets, but that they should contribute to the value chain by introducing activities that improve profitability.
The main species unloaded by these ships are hake, sole, monkfish, whiting, and mackerel.
